As I write this message, leaves from maple, white birch, and ash trees, masquerading as red, orange, and yellow raindrops, swirl in the wind before landing on the forest floor.
Wasn’t it August just yesterday?
These last couple of months have been fiercely challenging for all conscious humans who care about the current fast-paced climate changes and their impact on the Earth. We are regularly seeing, or are personally experiencing, the ravaging effects of fires, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes.Though it is heartbreaking, this is not a time to be silent. The Earth needs all our voices, our dedication to the repair and sustenance of her life in ways that we’re each able, whether it’s with donations to, or participation in, organizations actively working to shift ecological awareness in all human-consciousness, or by personally protesting where possible, or using our voices to educate the public, one by one.
While we are heartbroken by the ravaging of trees, roots, microorganisms, the birds, four-legged animals, humans, people’s homes, and the vital infrastructure required to move about, get to work, and restore our homes, we’re also being subjected to a stream of hateful rhetoric about women’s reproductive rights, the deportation of immigrants who’ve arrived from the southern border, and an end to alternative sources of electrical power, to name a few.
I hear you!
In the face of all this, it’s difficult to remain motivated and hopeful; at times, it may seem as difficult as we might imagine single-handedly aiding an elephant from the ground to back up on her feet.
In those moments, though I don’t imagine I could single-handledly help an elephant get up from the ground, I remind myself how critical it is to never give up the fight for the restoration and maintenance of truth, justice for all living beings, and the protection of Mother Earth.
In her daily Substack posts, Joyce Vance, a lawyer and defender of justice, reminds us that, “We’re in this together!” Like lifting that elephant up from the ground, when we work together, I believe all things are possible!
As for the memoir, it has been edited by my amazing teacher and mentor, Jennifer Browdy. I’m currently integrating Jennifer's suggestions to improve the flow of my life story. Since I’m regularly seeing clients, I’ll likely need through December to accomplish this end. Hopefully, my final copy will be back in her hands during January, enabling us to move forward with its publication through Green Fire Press, a hybrid publisher owned by Jennifer.
You can find Jennifer Browdy and Joyce Vance’s substack posts by Google searching each of their names such as: Jenniferbrowdy.substack.com. Or you can search the recommendations section of this substack.
I appreciate you reading my messages. I hope my young tech guru will soon teach me how to do substack audio and video messages in addition to text messages. This will enable me to stay in touch more regularly. Stay tuned!
Blessings till next time, Dory
Welcome back, Dory!
Along with Joyce, you might want to take a moment for following Dan Rather’s substack posts.
And I’m glad you’re getting that other elephant - finishing your memoir while seeing clients - balanced, too.
Anticipating your upcoming book,
MK
Good to hear you have made such wonderful progress! The memoir is so close to being birthed into the world. I can’t wait for this gift!
